Anyone remember them? Who produced the show? It strikes me as a Kroft show but I am not sure and have not seen it in a long time.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 4:07 PMAbsolutely! Here's one of my favorite pages about the Banana Splits on a generally great Hanna-Barbera (who produced the show) fansite:
www.wingnuttoons.com/Banana_Splits.html
It wasn't a Krofft show, per se, but Sid & marty Krofft were involved in the set and costume design. It may have been the success of the Banana Splits that prompted them to start creating their own shows and may have used the same puppeteers (the actors inside the suits).
This book:
www.amazon.com/exec/obido...1580630073/
Gives lots of detail regarding Sid & marty Krofft's contribution to the Banana Split production.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 4:27 PMCool, that explains it then.
Say, do you know what theme park it was that they filmed at? -
-
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 5:47 PMWas it the same one that was used in a Brady Bunch episode? The park had the word "king" in it. -
-
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 6:12 PMCould be. I have heard it was Kings Island, Kings Dominion, and also Dorney Park in PA, the last being the least likely. -

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 7:26 PMIt's Danger Island next! -
-
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 1:11 AMAnd to think that the "Danger Island" segments were directed by a young Richard Donner....years before finding fame as a film director (the first Superman film, the Lethal Weapon movies)

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 7:53 PMBoth the Bradys and the Splits were filmed at Kings Island. It's owned by Paramount Studios. Also why Peter Brady dressed up as one of the Banana Splits in the episode. -

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 12:37 AMThank Rev.
That would be the california branch of that park chain I expect.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 1:12 AMThey showed an episode of The Banana Splits on Boomerang last night and in the credits it said "Filmed on location at Kings Island, Ohio and Six Flags Over Texas". -
-
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 1:35 AMInteresting, Ohio and Texas.
I recently got my a friend to watch the show, well about a year ago, and she had never seen it.
She griped at me for the song sticking in her head for months.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 11:51 AMOn the Banana Splits album, which I proudly own, there is a song written by Barry White called "Gonna find me a cave" which is rockin' tried to get some of my friends to cover it... -
-
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 12:13 PMThat's a good one. My old roommate and I used to play and sing "I Enjoy Being a Boy," another fab Banana Splits tune.
-
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 1:46 PMDid Barry White write that one as well? I'm pretty sure he wrote "Doin' the Banana Split" as well.
My favorite tunes are "Wait 'til Tomorrow" and "Gonna Find a Cave" (and the theme, of course). -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 3:09 PMDon't know who wrote it but The Dickies cover of it is a classic!

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 4:30 PMI know that this isn't the "what's on my iPod tribe" but I couldn't go the day without checking my iPod to see what Banana Splits songs I had on it:
The Tra La La Song (show theme)
We're The Banana Splits
I'm Gonna Find A Cave
This Spot
Doin' The Banana
Wait 'Til Tomorrow
I think I had to buy the CD from an online German vendor about 5 years ago. It also included songs from a cartoon series called the Beagles.

Sun, June 5, 2005 - 11:36 PMCool! I have relatives in Cincinnati, Ohio and I have been to Kings Island a couple of times. It's been a long time ago though! lol
I remember riding a roller coaster called The Beast.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Tue, November 21, 2006 - 4:05 AMHair Bear of The Hair Bear Bunch, actually. King's Island had all Hanna-Barbera charecters in the park then...now it's (UGH!) Spongebob and others of that ilk. Cedar Point recently bought bought both King's Island and King's Dominion, BTW. -
-
Kings Island major "UGH" or "owwww"
Sat, August 11, 2007 - 10:21 AMA close friend of mine was recently hurt rather badly on one of the coasters at Kings Island and there are quite a few reports that quality of the facility has declined greatly since the purchase by Cedar Corp.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 7:54 AMThe Splits had a good run in the UK too where I saw it on video a few years back. One of my favorite quotes ever, is from a Rolling Stone magazine illustrated history of Rn R essay on Bubblegum.
" 'Four bananna , three bananna , two bannana ,one-four banannas playin in the bright blue sun' will be etched into my until my final days..." -

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Fri, May 6, 2005 - 12:05 AMThat quote was from Lester Bangs btw...

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 6:25 PMThanks! Ever since that show finally resurfaced into my memory (I think I may just have been only able to see it when I went to the Bay Area to visit family??) last year or so after what close to 30 years of forgotten, I have tried to remember that song (without thinking to go to a computer and search for it ;-P!
Tra-la-la-la, La-la-la-la...
...Four banana, three banana, two banana one
All bananas playing in the bright, warm sun
Flippin' like a pancake, poppin' like a cork
Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper an' snork...

Re: The Banana Splits?
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 1:21 PMThat show was all about the Dilly Sisters. Did they have another number besides Ta-Ra-Ra-Boom-De-Ay? Anyhow, who cares, they OWNED that song! Every time they knocked Beagle on his ass I just about lost it.
I looked long and hard for an on-line pic of the Dilly Sisters, to no avail...

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 7:47 AMIt was Kings Island in Cincinnati Ohio. I live in Central Ohio and I have enjoyed that park for numerous years now.
The park itself opened in 1972.
I came to this tribe site in hopes of finding more information about the Bananna Splits but I only had a few minutes because I was leaving for my vacation. I noticed several of you talking about other tv shows that were shot there. I didn't give it much attention until I was on my cruise ship and on the vintage tv station they had an old Partridge Family episode that was shot at "of all places to be shot" Kings Island!!! Chills went up and down my spine. Numerous tv shows at that times filmed there, maybe because of their media hospitality.

I truly believe that all the outside Bananna Split scenes were done there at Kings Island in Cincinnati Ohio but possibly the indoor scenes were done in a studio somewhere else? If I find more information I will repost.
Here is a link to a picture that might spark some memories. Notice the German style houses to the left. They have remained the same since 1972.
multimedia.pki.com/images/n...1_mc3.jpg
"Ever since opening day on April 29, 1972, Kings Island's landmark has always been the Eiffel Tower. Essentially the center of the Park, the Eiffel Tower stands 331 feet above the midways below. Guest have the opportunity to ride up to two different observation levels. These observation levels offer a fantastic view of the Park that can't be beat! Built by Intamin, the Eiffel Tower is a 1/3 scale replica of the original in Paris, France."

Just found an awesome web site about Kings Island: www.americalovescrap.com/galle...um.php
Here is a link to a post card from Kings Islands with the Bananna Splits gang: www.americalovescrap.com/galle...ts.jpg
Another post card. Maybe you might remember the Red and Blue Racer rollercoster: www.americalovescrap.com/galle...ed.jpg
Yep even a postcard of The Brady Bunch: www.americalovescrap.com/galle...ch.jpg
The last day of shooting the Bananna Splits (acording to this picture): www.americalovescrap.com/galle...rk.jpg
Last picture; Kings Island grand opening day. Maybe this is why I dreamed of being a Bananna Split. These characters are major players. Women look out or fall into their deceptive charms: www.americalovescrap.com/galle...i5.gif
Ok, hopefully this helps solve the mystery of what park it was filmed at! Thank you all for helping me and others relive some great memories from the past this has been extremely fun!

Mon, June 6, 2005 - 6:56 PMThe B Spilts! Oh yeah!
Thanks for posting this one, I've had a ball reading the responses and reliving some fond memories. Wasn't the Arabian Nights and a Tom Sawyer cartoon part of the show also?
Uh oh Chongo!
Hey wasn't that Jan Michael Vincent on Danger Island? uh oh Chongo indeed.

Sat, August 11, 2007 - 10:17 AMYep it was JMV, before his career crashed and burned due to various "substance problems". I saw a recent picture of him and he really looked like hell, even allowing for the time passing.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Tue, November 21, 2006 - 4:00 AMOk, here's an all about the Splits to iron out the details:
The opening and closing bits were filmed at Cincinnati's Coney Island (the Splits premiered in 1968, King's Island wasn't even opened until 1972). The reason why the park looks like King's Island is because King's Island replicated much of Coney Island when the park (which closed in 1970 due to ongoing flood problems from the Ohio River), was mover to higher ground. The only time they were at King's Island was in a "Saturday Superstar Movie", 'The Banana Splits in Hocus-Pocus Park'. This also marks the only time they were filmed in animation by H-B.
The outdoor shots were filmed both at Six Flags over Texas and Coney Island..just depends which episode you'll see the which park.
Hanna-Barbera fimed the show& produced, but yeah, the Krofft Brothers designed the costumes. Snorky got re-designed so the guy inside could better hold things..that's why sometimes he looks like an elephant, and others a wooly mammoth.
For reasons unknown, there were only three episodes of Micro Adventure produced.
The Dilly Sisters also had a song, "Good guys don't always wear white" (I think).
Now for my own memories...
I loved The Arabian Knights and The Adventures of Gulliver..Three Musketeers, not so much; Tooly got on my nerves!
And yes, that IS a very young Jan Michael Vincent as Link on Danger Island...anybody else think the skeleton men were creepy?
As for the Splits themselves,Bingo & Drooper were my favorites, then Fleegle, then Snorky.
The songs I like best..Lovin' End, Wait 'til Tomorrow, the theme song, and Doin' the Banana.
The Splits are available on DVD and on CD!! Go to Ebay and you can get them!
In England, they have plush and beanbag versions of our boys available. Again, check Ebay.
"Alright now, the Banana Splits Club will be ajorned with a simple good bye...Goodbye, Simple!" -

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Tue, July 3, 2007 - 3:03 AMwendy beat me to the punch....yeah, it's like 2:30am and The Bananna Splits air everynite on Cartoon Networks Boomerang!! Brought back all kind's of memories...but I vaguely remember The Danger Island episodes until now. They're insane...the acting was insane! imaginative...but still insane. Tonites episode started with these white kats running from some bone-painted tribe dudes....they run into a cave of what appears to my eyes to be birds....but they were actually suppose to be bats....the leader kat tells everyone to yell loudly in order to get thru the gave of bats.
ps...this is clearly the wrong sh** to be watch'n when u high off the chron.
And the bananna splits themselves...krayzee as kat shi*!! Now I know why I'm so nutts...my childhood was awsome with classics like this.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sat, August 11, 2007 - 10:19 AMIn many ways I think Danger Island was sort of a spoof of the series The Tomorrow People as well as several pacific island or jungle oriented shows that were popular around that time.

Re: The Bananna Splits?
Sat, August 11, 2007 - 11:51 AMThere's a clip on YouTube in which Ricky Gervais interviews Garry Shandling. Gervais tells Shandling he thinks Shandling looks a lot like Bingo the Banana Split. They send a guy in to find a picture of Bingo on the web and he brings the printout to Shandling. It's all pretty awkward.
