VILLA ALEGRE THEME SONG?

I'm going crazy trying to remember the theme song to the 1970's PBS kids show "Villa Alegre" (aka "Happy Village" in english). All I can remember is part of the theme which went something like "La la la la la, la la la la, la la la la, Villa Alegre! Goodbye Amigo, our song is over..." and so on,but that's all I know. I used to watch the show all the time when I was a kid. I learned to speak a lot of Spanish from watching. I remember there was a bird that talked and kids and singing. Anyone else know the song? Help me.

I really should not be looking for anything on this show because watching it could send me into a coma, which you will understand if you've seen it. Does anyone else remember this? Nobody I know does, and though I did find one site on google, it is no longer up. Any info, froozles?

Does anyone else remember a Canadian Christmas special from around 77 or 78? it was an animated story of three wisemen from outer space who came to Earth to study the true meaning of Christmas. no one else I konw seems to remember it, nor can I find it on tape or DVD. Am I crazy? It looked alot like the animation from the Devil and Daniel Mouse

Does anybody remember that show? 1975 ; it didn't last long, and I don't remember it well, but I think ladies of the evening were involved. Funny how stuff sticks with you. Everytime I see the housekeeper on Two and a Half Men (and every other time I've seen her over the years), I think to myself, "That's the lady from that hotel show." However, can I remember to mail my car registration? Heck no!

What about the kick ass toys that we played with in the 70's? There are a thousand groups for Star Wars toys, so let's skip those. What about Stretch Armstrong, Evel Kneivel Stunt Cycle, and Squirmles?
I got a Squirmles for Christmas from a distant aunt. I remember in the commercial they would show it doing far out tricks and stuff, but I guess mine was defective.

Anybody remember "Brenda?"

I hope you guys can get me out of the dog house, and not into the loony bin.

Last night I insisted that Julie Kavner had a spinoff from Rhoda, called "Brenda." I was called on it, and have found absolutely no evidence to support my assertion. I remember it vividly, and I remember it being really bad.

Do any of you remember such a thing? Why doesn't imdb say anything about it?

Am I thinking of a single episode of Rhoda, called "It's all about Brenda?" Was it like a fake-show within a show, or was it intended to be a pilot?

Tell me I'm not crazy, please. Thanks for any insight.

strange shorts on Sunday morning

"I will die happy if anyone remembers this, because I think I hallucinated it. It was a live-action animated short that was broadcast on the East coast right before Davey and Goliath, early on weekend mornings when I was a kid, which is quite a looooong time ago (the mid-'60's). The crux of what I recall is, a pair of scissors skated in on one blade and, after dancing around a bit, cut out a little dog from a piece of folded white paper, and the dog became animated, and interacted with some other items on the table, maybe a ball of string and things like that? It only had music, no voices. I think it may have been a 15-minute deal."
I hope it's alright to do this.I'm going to tell this person, anyway this is a blog post about a cartoon I barely recall, but realy want info on.I agree with their sentiments.I saw it in the early 70's.It haunts me

The live action series shown as a serial on the Bannana Splits show?
I remembered the opening looked so cool, but then being disappointed that it was only about 5 minutes long, and those awful cartoon sound-effects when the so-called "fight scenes" were happening.
What was up with "Chongo"? what an irritating character. The cast would always say "Uh-Oh... Chongo!" and then this idiot would come out swinging on a vine wearing hippie clothes and jump around squealing, while head-hunters fell over and bumped into eachother.
Ahhh.... the 70's!!!

A movie from the The Family Film Festival

Hey does anyone remember the Family Film Festival? In LA growing up it was on chanel 5 and was hosted by Tom Hatton. He would play Popeye cartoons and The Little Rascals and then play a movie. Usually like Pippi Longstocking or Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang lol Well he used to play this one movie, but for the life of me I cant remember what it was. I barely remember any of it but I know I loved it. I remember there was a big castle and the bad guy had all these children locked up in jails in the castle. So like in the throne room along the sides were these jail cells and the children were locked up in them and the hero had to come save them but I dont remember who the hero was. I seem to remember the heros being kids for some reason. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I wish I could remember more of it but I just cant.

anyone else remember this short-lived Saturday morning kids show? not sure of the years, but i'd say late '70's to early '80's. it starred Hal Linden (of Barney Miller fame) hosting vignettes about various and sundry things related to ... animals. The theme song was sung by Lynn Anderson, who if i'm remembering correctly, had a claim to fame with the song "I Beg Your Pardon (I Never Promised You a Rose Garden)" and she sometimes appeared on the show, too, i believe...

So there I was at my friend Charlene's house, and what do I spy in her DVD collection? Two sets of After School Specials discs! I had no idea that such a thing had been released!

Here's the Amazon.com url for the first set. They're pretty inexpensive, too!

Hi there does anyone remember the ABC's After School Specials. The one I remember was MY MOM IS HAVING A BABY, where this little boy wanted to know where babies come from. It was so funny how he and his friends thought where babies come from. But I cant seem to remember any other After School Specials. I also hear that title in shows that I watch, they say God I feel like Im in a After School Special

Does anyone else remember this 70's cartoon? I used to watch it in the later afternoon after school. At the time it was me & my best friends fave after school show- we though it was quite funny, though I'm sure much of the humour is quite dated and would seem silly at best.

Remember Saturday morning shows with Shazam and Isis?
The Shazam used to drive me up the wall because the actors that played Capt. Marvel were as about as exciting as watching paint dry!
All they did was jump in slow motion, and were on screen for about 2 minutes. So much for special effects for superheros in the 70's.
Isis was no better, but she was great to look at!

When we were kids, there was no cable... We had all of 3 channels for saturday morning cartoons, if you were lucky, maybe a local station would play some additional stuff. I remember I used to wake up really early - in fact sometimes before any cartoons were on.

I remember the pre-cartoon programming on saturdays here in the SF bay area included a show called Agriculture USA and some sort of college challenge show. I also remember the really early am cartoons being the lame ones, because only ADD kids were awake to watch them.

Does anyone else have memories of watchin bad tv because of the limited choices we had?

Does anyone in the Portland area remember a kids show called Bumpity? No matter who I ask they have no recolection of it. Bumpity was a bump on a wall and he talked to his friend a little worm. Local authors and Portland "famous" people would come and talk to Bumpity. Lots of puppets in the 70s.

I'm a new jersey 70's kid and found this site in search for info on the magic garden. How relieved that my search is over and there were other people who have seen it. Has anybody ordered the tapes from Carole and Paula? If so how were they? Anyway, I remember this other show, or maybe it was part of another show but it was called vegetable soup. It was on early in the morning also on WPIX television. I was a show with puppets who had cardboard box rocket ship and imagined they went on trips through space. Anybody heard of it or were they repetitive dreams?

http://imdb.com/title/tt0467110/

How bad do you think that will be? I'm afraid to even think about it. It's too bad Hollywood has run out of new ideas, and they have to screw up old "Classics". :C This is just sad.

Wally Cox is THE ONE & ONLY Underdog as far as I'm concerned.

I sometimes think that if I could compartmentalize my mind, pertinent information could be easily stuffed in a glovebox, while worthless memories and information would fill the parking lot of Dodger Stadium.
A huge part of this would be the shitty jingles that terrorized us as children.

Like the 'Snoopy Brush-a-Brush-a Toothbrush'

Snoopy Brush-a-Brush-a Toothbrush,
Just before you go to bed,
It's a really nice touch!
Start your day the Snoopy Brush-a-Brush-a Toothbrush way!

Or don't forget the theme to the 'Brady Kids' cartoon.

Meet the sisters
Now meet the brothers
Greg's the leader and a good man for the job
There's another boy by the name of Peter
The youngest one is Bob
See our sisters. They're all quite pretty.
First there's Marcia with her eyes a sparkling blue
Then there's Jan the middle one who's really groovy
And sister Cindy too
Let's get set now for action and adventure
As we things we never saw before
We'll meet Mop Top and Ping and Pong the pandas
And Marlon who has voices by the score
The Brady Kids
The Brady Kids
It's the world of your friends The Brady Kids.

Between this channel and this tribe, I've found a way to relive my childhood! Cartoon Network's Boomerrang has darn near every toon we grew up with; Scooby-Doo (NO SCRAPPY!), Penelope Pittstop, Gigantor, Original Fantastic Four (no robot!), Thundarr the Barbarian, Volton, Dastardly and Muttley, ad infamum. Get your Tivos and recorders fired up!!

I liked Dastardly and Muttley, but they confused me because of my very young age and because of how those worthies looked, I thought Snoopy had teamed up with The Red Baron! Lol.

This beautiful woman dressed in a peter-pan type suit (her real first name was Jane, i think, can't remember her last name). this show was on PBS stations for a number of years. I was very young at the time but my first memories of television are of this show.

Some of you may have heard of it, it compares Kimba the White Lion (60's/70's) and The Lion King and shows the many places where it makes it obvious that Kion King is a direct copy of much of Kimba, despite the claims of it being all orginal.

Anyone remember the Incredible Hulk series on CBS in the late 70's? Bill Bixby was David Banner and Lou Ferrigno portrayed the HULK. It was a pretty good drama for TV back then, considering the other crap that was on, like The Dukes of Hazard for instance.
Any fans of the Hulk?

if there's ever an architype of '70's kids tv programming ... remember the Marlo Thomas production called "Free to Be ... You and Me"?!? I still love it to this day and it is amazing how the values imparted in it are still relevant today.

my favorite bits:
the theme song
Carol Channing's Housework bit
William Wants a Doll

anyone else remember this? i had a group of friends in college who would occasionally gather around the piano in the dorm lounge and we'd all sing the theme song.

does anyone else recall these bizzare records that kids listen to on there record players when they tired of TV? They featured the 'Hollywood Studio Orchestra' and 'Famous Theater Players' who all sounded like smart gay brits doing stories like "Puss in Boots", "Sleeping Beauty" , "The Tinder Box" etc
They were replete with creepy cool album cover art.
Very 'pre-video and DVD' you could play along with your own toys or pretend to be the characters...

A show that came along a bit later that recycled the Banana Splits
formula a bit (live action costumed characters on a psychedelic set + cartoons) was the Skatebirds.

The show wasn't quite on par with the Banana Splits but did have great costumes (three huge birds on rollersaktes), a great set (including a spiral ramp that the characters would skate down), and at least on great voice artist (Scatman Crothers played some kind of alley cat.

The downer was the Robonic Stooges cartoon they aired. Zoidberg (Futurama) does a better Curly than the one on that cartoon...

Still, I'd collect Skatebirds on tape for the live action stuff alone.

Here are the lyrics to a show I loved as a kid ...

Soft and sweet. Wise and wonderful. Oooh our mystical, magical nanny.

Since the day that nanny came to stay with us
Fantastic things keep happening.
Is there really magic in the things she does
Or is love the only magic thing that nanny brings

You know our nanny showed us you can make the impossible happen.
Nanny told us have a little faith and lots of love

Phoebe Figalilly is a silly name and so many silly things keep happening.
What is this magic thing about nanny? Is it love? Or is it magic?

H.R. Puff~N~Stuff

H.R. Pufnstuff,
Who's your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuff
Can't do a little cause he can't do enough.

Once upon a summertime
Just a dream from yesterday
A boy and his magic golden flute
Heard a boat from off the bay
"Come and play with me, Jimmy
Come and play with me.
And I will take you on a trip
Far across the sea."

But the boat belonged to a kooky old witch
Who had in mind the flute to snitch
From her broom broom in the sky
She watched her plans materialize
She waved her wand
The beautiful boat was gone
The skies grew dark
The sea grew rough
And the boat sailed on and on and on and on and on and on.

But Pufnstuff was watching too
And knew exactly what to do
He saw the witch's boat attack
And as the boy was fighting back
He called his rescue racer crew
As often they'd rehearsed
And off to save the boy they flew
But who would get there first?

But now the boy had washed ashore
Puf arrived to save the day
Which made the witch so mad and sore
She shook her first and screamed away.

H.R. Pufnstuff,
Who's your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuff
Can't do a little cause he can't do enough.

H.R. Pufnstuff,
Who's your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuff
Can't do a little cause he can't do enough.

I found this here:
http://www.culttelly.co.uk/lyrics/hr.html

*sniff.... what memories... I use to love this show!

It seemed kind of trippy to me...

wonder twin powers ACTIVATE!!!!

this is old news...was just wondering if anyone has any updates...and for those that don't know..yes this is(was) for real

Wonder Twins Movie Activates!

by Joal Ryan
Jun 8, 2002, 3:45 PM PT

The Wonder Twins' considerable--if unusual--powers have been reactivated.

Apparently thinking what's good for Spider-Man is good for Jayna and Zan, Warner Bros. is teaming with Gaylord Films to develop a live-action flick about the teen 'toon titans from the planet Exxor, the Hollywood trade papers reported this week.

No word if Gleek is attached.

Jayna and Zan, aka the Wonder Twins, and their pet monkey, Gleek, helped battle the likes of Lex Luthor, Captain Cold and other DC Comics baddies during the 1977-78 season of the ABC Saturday morning cartoon series Superfriends.

In the superhero universe, Superfriends, which ran in various incarnations from 1973-86, was Justice League of America lite. While the TV show featured many of the same heroes as the comic-book title that is JLA (Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc.), it also featured the kiddie-rific likes of hero trainees Jayna and Zan. (And, of course, Gleek.)

The Wonder Twins are perhaps best known for their mantra, "Wonder Twins powers, activate!" Shortly after reciting this mantra, the siblings then do the other thing they are perhaps best known for: Turning themselves into the universe's lamest crime fighters.

Like, maybe Jayna will transform into a zebra. And Zan? Poor Zan. He'll turn into a puddle of water. Or, if he's really steamed, he may just bust a move on Brainiac by turning into, you know, steam.

The Wonder Twins' shtick is that Jayna can take the form of any animal, and Zan can convert himself into any form of water.

Like ice cubes.

Gleek, meanwhile, is blue.

Okay, so Jayna and Zan aren't Spider-Man. And they're certainly not Superman (or Supergirl, for that matter). But according to the trades, Warners isn't hot on the Wonder Twins because they see them as successors to the recent spate of form-fitting, high-action superhero flicks. Rather, the studio reportedly sees the Exxor aliens as following in the animated-to-live footsteps of its upcoming family-friendly Scooby-Doo flick.

The Wonder Twins project is in its infancy, with no script, no director and, as of yet, no prospective Wonder Twin stars.

When pressed, the Webmaster known as Avia Free, of the Justice League International Headquarters fan site (with its offshoot Zan & Jayna FAQ), said he could see Christina Ricci ("dressed as a 'nice girl' for once") and "that fellow [Nicholas Brendon] that plays Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as Twin material.

What no Superfriends aficionado apparently can see is where Wendy, Marvin and Wonderdog fit into all this.

Wendy and Marvin, with their pet pooch, Wonderdog, were the super friends' original teen friends, during the show's 1973-74 season. Unlike Zan and Jayna, Wendy and Marvin couldn't transform into anything. Not even a mean mist. They were mortals, as was Wonderdog, who was not even blue (although he did wear a cape). The trio was written off the show and replaced by the Wonder Twins and Gleek.

And, on the eve of the Wonder Twins' big-screen close-up, Wendy and Marvin continue to receive little support.

"Wendy and Marvin were [expletive deleted] ridiculous stupid kids with no powers other than getting accidentally locked inside the villain's trunk," the Webmaster Seanbaby (of Seanbaby's Super Friends Page) said in an email interview. "At least the Wonder Twins made fools of themselves with fantastic abilities."

I vaguely remember reading an article about Fran (of the Kukla Fran & Ollie show) being emotionally closer to the puppets than one would expect a professional actor to be - or any adult for that matter. The writer may have been exagerating, but does this ring a bell with anyone? The article, I mean. I'd like to find it again.

The Big Blue Marble

That Jabberwocky post got me thinking about the local and national kid's variety/psa/learning shows that were on during the weekends in the 1970's. There were many that passed through the SF/Bay Area, though some seem like faded memories...

To the best of my knowledge these were the coolest : The Big Blue Marble ("closer, getting closer"), Just Kidding ("just kids kidding") ,Powerhouse (Canadian?), 30 Minutes, Hot Fudge, Gettin Over, Playmate Schoolmate and of course the annoying "Kids Are People Too."
Hot Fudge was particularly memorable because it had a blaxploitaion/Black power feel to it.
The Big Blue Marble's opening sequence was like a Carpenter's song , replete with soaring vocals and NASA imagery until they changed it to poorly edited shots of mostly tone deaf kids in a school picture day setting truncating the lyrics...it was an awesome show.

Please share any of memories and musings

I was so disheartned to learn they "improved" the letter people.....
I loved this show and well guess im just "old" but when my childhood memories are tampered with it ticks me off :<
Mr H now has short hair and instead of "horrible hair" he has "happy hair"
I dont know what mr D is supposed to be but its not longer "Delicisous Donuts" but instead some guy dressed like a flamenco dancer with maracas in his hand.

the worst of it all...Ms I is now MR I...some nerd with glasses,

Did anyone else dig this saturday morn cartoon as much as I did? The kids were all obedient, clever enough to solve the crime and were also pretty groovy all at the same time! They played in a band together that was really rocking in that special cartoon- band -ala -Josie and the pussycats way! Especially memorable was the song 'who dunnit'

Another strange kid's show that came on in between cartoons on weekdays. Longer than Snippets and other p.s.a.s , It gave out advice on everything from pottytime to feeling lonely as a latchkey kid. Does anyone remember the animated characters? I'm seeing an ostritch and a small hairy guy in my mind...

Okay, so how I managed to forget what was perhaps my MOST favorite kid's show from the 70's is beyond me. From the colorful 70's animation that opened the show, to the Melaniesque hippy girl that sang lovely songs to the shows about bugs- I went nuts for this show...I can still sing the whole theme song!

Obscure '70s Los Angeles Mexican kids show

OK, this one's been bothering me for umpteen million years. There used to be this kid's show on Channel 9 (?) in L.A. The entire 'cast' was made of marionettes, save the one token human. It was in a combination of English and Spanish, and the main villain was this creepy Brujah, who would walk along and try to make all the other puppets' lives miserable. Yes, the puppets would go _outside_. It was really odd seeing them do things like walk along train tracks. I especially remember the Day of the Dead episode, with all these cool skeleton mariachi puppets.

Anyone else remember this?

Squiddily Diddly-The search is over!

Ever since I met Amanda she has been talking up Squiddly Diddly and this very rare Surfin Safari album that Hanna- Barbera made for/about him somewhere in the late 60's. She sings the songs, acts out the cartoon for our son and generally channels the his Diddilyness.
Well Amanda and everyone....I found the album, 'Squiddily Diddly's Surfin Safari', this weekend at an antique store in Martinez!
Actually the hubby spotted it and now we are trying to burn it via our turntable and laptop onto a CD. As soon as we get this figured out, anyone who would like us to burn them a copy is welcome to it. The disc features authentic and excellent surf music and lyrics that highlight the travails of the crazy Sqiddily and his wishes to be a rockstar and 'leave Bubbleland.' Amanda was so right, the music is incredible. I figured that this qualifies for our lovely tribe because although this is from the 1960's, most of us saw Sqiddily , Top Cat, Fred Flintstone etc etc ,well into the late 70's...Thanks Hanna -Barbera!!!
Here is more Squiddly stuff :)

Hot Fudge! Right On!

So I'm very excited to read that the Hot Fudge tapes, props, puppets and music are all intact and waiting for someone to either market them on dvd or syndicate them. One snafu is that know one knows who owns the rights....Here's some more info on Hot Fudge:

Hot Fudge regular/singer Larry Santos had a minor Top 40 hit in 1976 with "We Can't Hide it Anymore" which reached #36 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart (This song is available on the Barry Scott Lost 45's of the 1970's and 1980's Volume 2 CD). Larry was also famous for writing the 4 Seasons song "Candy Girl" and singing commercial jingles for 7-Up, Budweiser, G.I Joe Adventure Team Toys, Transition Contact Lenses, the American Library Association ("If you have any questions at all, you can call on the library"), among some others.

Ron Cohen, who played Detective Tomato and Professor Emotion and Mr. Nasty, appeared in the "Running Around" segment that was produced for WXYZ in Detroit that aired from 1979-1980 on "Kids are People Too" in place of the "Pink Panther" cartoon segment.

Arte Johnson of Laugh-In ("Very Intersting") was a regular for the first few Hot Fudge episodes of 1975.

Brad Lowe's Enrickly Enterprises (who provided the Hot Fudge puppets) created the Family Album animatronic show for 5 franchised Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre locations (3 in the Detroit area, 1 in Danvers, MA., and 1 in Warwick, Rhode Island). The same company also did the Hot Fudge animatronic show for one of the Detroit franchised CECPTT locations and an animatronic show for a CECPTT knockoff in Ontario, Canada. Brad Lowe/Enrickly also created the hippie rock 'n roll puppet named Rodney who appeared as a regular alongside Dick Clark during the 1976-1977 season of "American Bandstand".

The Hot Fudge puppets first appeared on an episode the 1969-1971 NBC series "The Bill Cosby Show"
